The Department of Performing Arts at Bath Spa University in partnership with the Bristol Shakespeare Festival is hosting Cock-A-Hoop: Contemporary Shakespeare in Practice Symposium. This symposium aims to bring together artists, academics and students from a wide range of disciplines to share ideas, research, practice, and performances under the topic of contemporary Shakespeare. The symposium will also emphasise contemporary approaches to Shakespeare in practice and therefore will be interactive.
The symposium is being held at Bath Spa University in the University Theatre on Saturday April 6,2013 between 10am and 4pm. The symposium is a free event for all presenters and guests. Some of the selected presenters and guests include:
- Directors of the Bristol Shakespeare Company
- RSC Director of Education
- Peter and Sarah Swords King – Swords & King
- Global Virtual Theatre Project Director – Alan McLaughlin
- Educational Shakespeare Company
- Shakespeare Unplugged
- Black Sun Drum Korps

If you are travelling by train we recommend that you travel to the Bath Spa stop in the heart of the city centre and catch the orange First Bus 15 to the university campus.The coach station is to the left of the train station as you exit. Additionally, we will have students waiting outside the train station to assist you from 9:00 -10:00am. Please let us know if you need any help with your travel plans.
If you are planning to arrive on the evening of April 5th – we would love for you to attend the Cockahoop performance that will be the basis of one of the practice-based research presentations at the symposium. Cockahoop is being presented as part of the Bath Comedy festival and will be performed at Burdall’s Yard Friday evening starting at 8pm.
